Rediet Simeon works in an Ethiopian leather and leather product research development as a designer. She persued this career after obtaining her bachelors degree in fashion design from Bahir, dar University followed by a Masters in Computer Aided Design from India FDDI campus. She’s passionate about creating new things and putting her time into crafts and designing.
INTERVIEW WITH REDIET
Tell us about the inspiration behind your project:
I was inspired by the title of my design ‘Plastic Pollution’ because plastic is everywhere and killing our planet; plastic doesn’t decompose easily, it’s causing damage to the earth through its wildlife, oceans and animals. I just want to remind people all over the world to save our planet and use more responsible materials.
What do you think makes leather a great material to design with?
Leather is a durable, strong and beautiful material to create things with.
What has been your experience in working with leather for this competition?
I love working with leather, it is elegant and luxurious.
How do you think winning this competition will impact your career as a designer?
Winning this competition will definitely encourage me to start my own business and create something new in this sector.
