Student design competitors complete samples in China
In February 2020 student designs from the Chinese leg of the Design Competition were shortlisted and requested to make samples.
There’s nothing better than discovering the new season’s collections—and in this year’s fashion weeks’ socially distanced or virtual catwalk shows, there is no doubt that sustainable fashion and textiles remain high on the agendas of both young and established brands. With many sustainable leather looks in this seasons collections, the team at RLSD asked for my five favourites from this AW21 season.
It would have been easy to favour the tailored looks at Givenchy and Temperly London; the ruched and fitted leathers on show at Altuzarra; the leather shirting and collars of Alberta Ferretti; the boxy leather bikers at Louis Vuitton; the leather harnesses styled in by Loewe; the total volume and leather shaped silhouettes by Simone Rocha; or the laser cut leather in Alaia’s collection—but it’s my top five and these are a bit more rock’n’roll!
Presenting Chanel’s final AW21 look—a gold leather front pocket and crystal buttoned trench coat: a showstopper dressed up or down which will outlast any wardrobe essential.
From the Alexander Vauthier runway, the Parisian designer’s black leather boyfriend shirt and wide-leg trouser: strong in structure and design, a great mix and match combination for any occasion.
An adorable Alessandra Rich python printed goat skin leather bralette and brief: this playful statement can be styled together or as separates with limitless combinations – team with an oversized cardigan and metallic platforms for the look of the season.
Christian Dior’s look 14—a leather laser cut love heart apron dress: sweet on its own or layered with a favourite shirt or top to emulate the Dior full runway look.
Y/Project’s chocolate leather gathered and piped coat and trouser pair is men’s street luxury at its best—confident and multifunctional, designed for a man who sets the trends!
Whatever your top 5 this AW season, you’ll be spoilt for choice! All serving such great inspiration for the current Real Leather. Stay Different International Student Design Competition which you can read about and enter here!
