Real Leather. Stay Different. Student Design Competition launches in the Philippines
Competition to promote sustainable leather will run for the first time in art and design schools in the Philippines.
The most recent leg of the Real Leather. Stay Different. student design competition has attracted hundreds of Mainland China entries, building on the success of similar competitions running in Taiwan region, Italy and the UK.
Organised in partnership with China Leather Industry Association (CLIA), the competition has attracted more than 500 entries from students from 7 selected mainland China universities. In February 2020 student designs from four categories were shortlisted by the impressive line-up of judges and the shortlisted students were requested to make real products, featuring hide and leather as the principal material, for the competition’s final stage. The judge panel will choose an overall winner on February 23, 2021 after months of delay due to the ongoing global pandemic.
During the sample production stage, leather catalogues provided by local Chinese tanneries were presented to the students and leather materials were mailed following their selection.
In July 2021, winners will be honoured at a product demonstration and awards ceremony hosted by the Leather and Hide Council of America (LHCA) and CLIA. Attendees including entrants, students and local media, will be able to see examples of the best of the competition.
Competition winners will receive cash awards and publication in Rollacoaster Magazine sponsored by LHCA.
