Think small is where RLSD takes a look at some of the companies around the world that we think are doing the right thing with leather. This is a greenwashing free zone – no matter what they produce, sustainability is at the heart of what they do.
What makes your company different?
What if, instead of depleting resources to create new materials, we just used the “waste” out there to create beautiful things? HYER GOODS is a brand that offers accessories made of leather and fabric sourced from deadstock materials and factory scraps.
Why is leather so important to you and what other materials do you use?
As long as people are eating meat, we believe it’s more sustainable to use the by-products of meat consumption than to create a new material. Plus, leather is durable and ages well over time.
We also use luxury yarn leftovers in cotton, cashmere, merino and angora, locally sourced in NYC and all natural deadstock cotton and cotton/linen canvas.

The Ring Bag
What is the signature product?
The Ring Bag, a versatile, slouchy zip-top hobo. Crafted in the hills of Italy, the Ring Bag seamlessly blends innovative design with timeless elegance and a commitment to sustainability. Featuring a unique click-ring mechanism and two adjustable straps, you can effortlessly switch from a chic handheld hobo to a curved shoulder bag or a crossbody crescent bag with a quick click.
What do Hyer Goods say?
Because leather is a natural product, full of defects, off grain, stretch/ growth/ injury marks, 12-15% can be wasted during the production and manufacturing process. For one single medium-size tannery, for example, that could mean 20,000 square feet of deadstock leather every month. Our larger items are cut from deadstock (abandoned) materials and our smaller items are made out of cutting scraps.
