Think small is where RLSD takes a look at some of the companies around the world that we think are doing the right thing with leather. This is a greenwashing free zone – no matter what they produce, sustainability is at the heart of what they do.
What makes your company different?
Better World Fashion was born out of a need to do better—socially, environmentally and for the world. We are working to change our current buy-and-throw-away culture and revolutionising the way we produce, sell and own products.
We want to spread the message that things don’t lose value because they are used.

Why is leather so important to you and what other materials do you use?
All our jackets and bags are made of upcycled leather, where we retain the original value of the leather. Once a BWF jacket has lived its life, we recycle the leather to make bags and backpacks. That way the leather stays in a closed loop. Furthermore, with our rental option and buy-back agreement, we offer our customers freedom and flexibility.
With our buy-back guarantee, when a jacket has been on the adventures it should, the leather is used again to produce bags and other lifestyle products. In this way, we are doing everything we can to reduce pollution, eliminate the concept of ‘waste’ and extend the life of the materials we use.
The pieces are sewn together with lining made from 100% recycled plastic bottles. Finally, detailing zippers and buttons made of re-melted metal are added.
What is the signature product?
The Alexander is a sleek version of the classic biker jacket. Get it in black for classic (sustainable) cool.

What do Better World Fashion say?
We will not compromise on style or sustainability. We show that existing elements can be combined to create sustainable styles. Better World Fashion creates exclusive and stylish leather jackets, bags, and lifestyle accessories while prioritising social & environmental responsibility in relation to our products, our production methods and the people who create them.
What does RLSD say?
We love the sentiment ‘things don’t lose value because they are used’. This is particularly true of great quality leather. The more it is used, the better it gets! We also think BWF’s buy-back agreement and rental options are great. Plastic linings, not so much. Plastics are forever. Mixing biodegradable and non-biodegradable products results in non-biodegradable products. If they end up in landfill, they are there indefinitely. Maybe recycled cotton would be a better option.
