It’s officially sandal season – and as ever, there’s a handful of trending styles that are dictating what we’ll be seeing on our social media feeds as the warmer weather (hopefully) continues.
While chunky dad sandals have dictated sandal trends for some time now, delicate, barely-there straps have made a return thanks to The Row’s celebrated minimal aesthetic and increasing interest in the ‘stealth wealth’ – or ‘quiet luxury’ – look, which has gained further attention recently thanks to popular TV show Succession.
Elsewhere, noughties fashion nostalgia sees the return of the floral corsage appliqué, and gladiator sandals are officially back, too. As ever, there’s another Hermes sandal on the wishlist of every fashion influencer, as well as a cult Bottega Veneta style. Read on to find out our top sandal picks for 2023:
Hermes’ Georgia Sandals
From the Oran to the Chypre, there’s always an Hermes sandal that’s selling out come summer – and this year, it’s the minimal Georgia style that’s having a moment. Toe post sandals are trending, too, and the Georgia’s soft-yet-sleek silhouette appeals to a minimal aesthetic, with Hermes’ signature special colour ways, of course. Blink and you’ll miss it, though – the Georgia is already completely sold out online, so shoppers will have to try their luck in Hermes’ exclusive stores.
Magda Butrym’s Flower Sandals
Polish designer Magda Butrym is having a serious moment in the footwear space in 2023, tapping in to the current 2000s nostalgia with her floral appliqué sandals. With delicate wrap around straps made in nappa leather, the style taps in to a number of other popular trends this season, though the detachable satin corsage is what has made the fashion world fall in love with them.
Other brands doing statement florals include Nensi Dojaka and Prada.
The Row’s T Bar Sandals
Caged styles are still trending – but slender, subtle straps are even more popular for 2023, tapping into the minimal ‘quiet luxury’ accessories that are having a moment. The Row’s T Bar sandals are selling out fast, following on from its popular Fisherman style that was a cult pick in 2022 (and remains a signature silhouette this year).
Celine’s Clea Triomphe Gladiator Sandals
The gladiator has officially returned to favour too, with the likes of Giambattista Valli, Alexander Wang and Prabal Gurung all showing the ankle-wrapping footwear on the Spring/Summer 2023 runways. Celine’s chic offering is always popular with fashion influencers and editors – and these slightly-chunky soled numbers in brown leather will no doubt nestle well within the most aesthetically-pleasing of Instagram feeds.
Bottega Veneta’s Cushion Mules
Puffy leather is back again, with a more refined edge. Bottega Veneta’s latest slip-on offering is made in high-shine lambskin leather, with squidgy soles to match. The brand’s latest shade of green, dubbed ‘jalapeño’, will surely be one of the muted shades of summer. The likes of Prada, Loewe and Chanel continue to offer the spongy styles, too.
