RLSD has partnered with the Institute of Digital Fashion (IoDF) to produce a virtual reality version of Gal Benjamin’s ‘Alexithymia’ so that anyone can try it on… Anywhere.
The VR version of Gal’s amazing leather trousers can now be modelled by Snapchat users across the world. He said: “I feel very proud to win this award and to have my design digitised by IoDF. ‘Alexithymia’ is a project that tackles toxic masculinity and challenges traditional tailoring norms—an important message that will now reach people globally through the metaverse. The competition and working with IoDF has educated me on the possibilities of new fashion technologies and their future in the design process.”
Leanne Elliott Young, IoDF Co-Founder said: “At IoDF, we push to support the talent of the future. We worked with Gal Benjamin as part of RLSD’22 to support in realising his design digitally, we championed the craftsmanship behind his leather artisan, into an AR digital wearable to push his talent to reach a wider community. It is the young creators, designers, and makers like Gal who inspire us daily, and who are unafraid to demand change by tackling integral, systemic issues in their work.”
