Leather is having its most confident summer yet. From the catwalks of Milan and Paris to the sun-drenched terraces of Ibiza, the material that once retreated the moment temperatures rose is now starring in the warmest months of the year.
The key to nailing summer leather is, as always, in the approach. It’s not about piling it on, it’s about choosing the right pieces, in the right weights, in the right cuts. That’s the way to look effortlessly put together with minimal effort.
This season, sustainability is at the fire. Great quality, ethically-sourced leather worn season after season is the antidote to fast fashion. The most stylish approach is simply to buy better and wear it more.
The midi skirt moment
If there is one piece that defines leather for Summer 2026, it is the midi skirt. Seen everywhere from the runways to the streets, the leather midi is doing the hard work this season. Find a good one and you’ll have enough coverage to feel refined and enough movement to feel truly summery.
Wear yours with a simple white cotton vest and flat sandals for a look that is effortlessly Parisian, or elevate it with a silk slip top for smarter summer occasions. The silhouette works in every colour, but this season we are particularly drawn to caramel, warm white and a deep forest green.
Tuck a lightweight cotton or linen shirt loosely into a leather midi for the ultimate summer city look. The contrast of fabrics is the whole point. It is what stops the outfit from being too heavy for the heat.

The leather vest top
This is the most directional leather piece of the summer, and for good reason. A fitted leather vest worn as a standalone top, tucked into wide-leg trousers, or left loose over a micro skirt, is luxuriously minimal in a way that few other garments can manage.
The leather vest is also your answer to air-conditioning. Those aggressively-cooled offices and restaurants that make a linen dress feel wildly insufficient? A leather vest provides just the right extra layer without any of the heaviness of a jacket.

Short shorts, done right
Leather shorts are still very much on the scene. The shift for this summer is in the cut. We are moving away from the spray-on silhouette toward something slightly more relaxed — a tailored, mid-thigh short.
Think Bermuda proportions in a paper-bag waist, or a clean, straight-cut short that skims rather than clings. Pair with a tucked-in striped tee and loafers for the kind of look that works in the office or on a night out.
Colour: The real conversation
Black leather in summer can feel oppressive. This season’s palette is where things get really interesting. The colours that dominated the Summer 2026 shows tell a very specific story of warm, natural, almost geological tones.
Praline and nude leather pieces can feel almost like a second skin against warm weather. Sandy tans and dusty terracottas have an earthy richness that somehow feels more luxurious than a classic black. Bolder colours such as a deep burgundy can bridge summer and autumn, an electric cobalt is impossible to ignore and a pale sage has a sophistication that only leather can achieve.

Let’s not forget the leather jacket. It never truly goes away, and in summer it earns its place as the ultimate transitional layer. Throw it over a slip dress for a cooler evening or drape it over your shoulders on the way home from dinner. The biker and the shacket remain the two most useful silhouettes.
The trick is to wear it deliberately rather than habitually. In summer, the leather jacket is a statement, not a default. Treat it that way and it will elevate everything it touches.

The Accessories Rule
If you are still warming up to the idea of leather clothing in the heat, accessories are your gateway. A leather belt cinching a flowing linen dress. A structured leather bag against the softness of a cotton co-ord. A leather hair clip pulling back a loose bun. These small touches add the material’s inherent sophistication without adding any heat whatsoever.
The leather bag, in particular, is perhaps the most summer-proof leather piece of all. A great shoulder bag or a compact crossbody in a warm seasonal colour can single-handedly change the register of the most casual summer outfit.
