How Sustainable is your wardrobe? From Fast Fashion Victim to Front Row Sustainable VIP, where are you on the style sustainability scale?

We asked you ‘how sustainable is your wardrobe?’ and you answered us. The online quiz may have been designed as a bit of fun, but it also carries a serious message and we found the results pretty encouraging.

We’re proud of leather’s sustainability because we know that when it comes to clothes and style you need to keep an eye on the future. That’s why we back slow style and not fast fashion. And the results of our quiz showed us you do, too – at least some of you!

From nearly 7,500 participants from across the world, less than 1% were branded ‘Fast Fashion Victims’. A healthy 17% bagged the top ‘Front Row Sustainable VIP’ score and another 45% were rated as ‘Fashion with a Conscience’.

The second biggest section of results was ‘Oh No – Fast Fashion is So Last Year’ with 38% of the respondents, so there is still some way to go, but the majority of quizzers (a healthy 62%) comfortably hit one of the top two spots.

Out of the top 10 countries with the most participants, Poland was the clear winner with 28% of entrants landing the most sustainable result. Next, came Greece and Hungary, with 19% of entrants receiving a gold star for sustainability …Unfortunately Bosnia & Herzegovina and Mexico came last in this category, with around 10% of quizzers receiving the Sustainable VIP award.

Questions covered the frequency of buying, favourite shops, favourite materials, and where clothes were manufactured, so the quiz gave a real insight into people’s buying habits.

And it was truly international, with people from 71 different countries participating.

Whether you are repurposing leather, finding vintage classics or sourcing long-lasting high-quality garments, we think a little time spent considering the sustainability of your style pays dividends. It’s good for the planet, good for your style, and, ultimately, good for your pocket.

To adapt an old saying, ‘buy cheap, pay thrice’. Once in the shop, once in damage to the planet, and once to replace the shoddy old fast fashion piece you mistakenly thought was a bargain!
