Some brands spend millions trying to look established but there’s no substitute for having been around for more than 90 years.

Moore & Giles was established in 1933 in the foothills of Central Virginia, right in the middle of the Great Depression. It started as a small family business supplying materials to shoemakers. Since then, it has weathered wars and industry shutdowns and quietly gone about the business of supplying leather of the finest quality. That kind of survival takes grit.

That grit earned the company a nickname from GQ magazine: “the Southern kings of leather.”

You may never have heard of Moore & Giles, but you could well be familiar with its products. As the company grew it branched out from shoe leather and today it is a leading supplier for many home furnishing retailers.

The company also supplies leather for the cabins and cockpits of private jets, luxury yachts and the bespoke interiors of automobiles.

Moore & Giles sources the finest hides and has them processed at historic tanneries. Many of these are more than a century old and still family owned and operated. There, artisans tan and finish each hide.

The result is a collection with a huge range of colours and textures, so there is a leather for nearly any project, whether that’s a sofa, a dining banquette or a statement chair.

Moore & Giles has recently moved beyond supplying the trade to making its own goods. After traveling the world, the company created a line of heirloom-quality travel bags and accessories made, of course, from its own leather. It has since expanded into home goods and furniture.

Choosing real leather means choosing something that develops character and lasts for generations, much like this almost century-old company.
