Your guide to Autumn/Winter 2025’s biggest leather trends

By Fiona Ward

Summer might not be over quite yet, but that doesn’t mean this year’s Autumn/Winter 2025 leather trends aren’t worth getting excited about. As ever, the cosy season collections are celebrating leather in a big way – literally – be it in oversized proportions or in the latest boot silhouettes coming down the runway in their droves.

This year, we’ve seen a move away from the quiet luxury of seasons past, with big, bold looks taking over (fur is even back on the runways, faux and otherwise). As ever, there’s fresh iterations of the leather jacket to mull over, and new textures to take in. Ahead, the stand-out leather trends from the AW25 catwalks…

The new neutrals

Chocolate brown was the new black last autumn/winter, and it doesn’t look like that’s set to change. While Tod’s studded cocoa-toned leather throughout the show (a leather-skirted strapless midi dress was one of the most memorable looks), Michael Kors showed rich moto jackets and Zomer caught attention with its ‘backward’ trench coats in coffee and caramel shades.

But elsewhere, other food groups are getting a look in – be it olive tones at Bally and Erdem or cranberry coats at Tom Ford. Essentially, it’s time to rethink your neutral colour palette.

Slouchy boots are back

You can probably thank the boho fashion comeback for the return of these slouchy, folded boots, which were also memorably in style back in the early 2000s. Louis Vuitton showed some particularly crumpled versions on its AW25 runway, while Balmain debuted ultra-statement over-knee boots in patent fabrications. Look to Isabel Marant and Miu Miu for more wearable options.

Proportion play

There’s no set silhouette for Autumn/Winter ‘25 – shapes are there to be played with. At Coach, things spanned from fitted cropped jackets to maxi coats, while shoulders were suitably oversized for a Saint Laurent collection that felt overtly 80s-coded. Meanwhile, curvy leather trousers accentuated the hips at Ralph Lauren, and cape-like sleeves defined a very flowy Zimmermann show.

Smooth textures

Despite the maximal overload seen across collections, subtlety does exist – particularly in the soft, smooth textures of leather favoured by the likes of Toteme, Fendi and Prada. Clean lines are key here; think thin layers, supple finishes and seamless accessories.

Revival bags

It was only a matter of time before the Chloé Paddington – bohemian bag of choice of the noughties – made its way back into the fashion lexicon. After watching its resale value steadily rise over the last few years, the fashion house finally relaunched it on the runway for AW25, cementing its status as the latest throwback handbag to have on-arm. Likewise, Celine jumped on the 2.0 bandwagon by refreshing its once-cult Phantom bag, now with a playful smiley face embellishment. It’s already been swung around town by the likes of A$AP Rocky and Julia Roberts, so prepare for a full renaissance across the board.
