Stylish Support: Global fashion brands lend a helping hand to fight Covid-19

Leading global fashion brands have recently followed the life-saving trend of transforming their own production lines to meet the needs caused by the coronavirus outbreak.

Over one million masks will be made by premium retailers Prada, Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent and Balenciaga, while luxury conglomerate LVMH (owning brands such as Dior, Fendi, Givenchy and Louis Vuitton) have recently said it will be making and supplying 40 million face masks to French authorities over the coming weeks. These masks have been made in both cotton and leather to maintain their robustness throughout the outbreak, helping to keep everyone safe in hospitals and in their day-to-day lives out of home. LVMH also announced that it would convert three of its factories to manufacture hand sanitisers instead of high-demand perfumes from Givenchy and Guerlain.

Other fashion houses have chipped in with generous donations, too: Moncler announced a €10m donation towards the construction of a 200-bed hospital in Milan. Two intensive care units in the Italian fashion capital have also received donations from two Prada CEOs Patrizio Bertelli and Miuccia Prada, alongside chairman Carlo Mazzi.
