Check out our Top 5 Leather Scents below.
Nothing evokes luxury like the scent of leather. From the fragrance of the hide upholstery in a Bentley to the enveloping aroma of a Chesterfield settee, leather’s smell, as much as its look and feel, is essential to its enduring appeal.
So it is little wonder that many colognes and perfumes aim to capture it and sell it to the masses!
The recreation of that familiar fragrance is not as simple as liquefying a loafer, or juicing a jacket. The sought-after scent is usually replicated with birch tar or with a complex combination of ingredients including patchouli, black tea and tobacco.
The first recorded leather perfume was commissioned by King George III in the 18th century. He was so taken with the smell of his gloves he commissioned Creed, a perfume house that survives to this day, to recreate it in a cologne.
To celebrate leather’s luxurious sensual assault, we’ve selected five different fragrances that capture its full olfactory range, from the newest, lightest suede to the most lived-in leather.
